Jezebel & Ahab: A Marriage Made in Hell

by Jacob  Marley

Wow. All I can say is, “Wow!

I’ve noticed over the past few years that when the Lord wants to arm me with a deep knowledge on a particular subject (whether for the purpose of teaching others, guarding against something in my own life, or both), I get an insatiable hunger for the topic He leads me to. With this said, I’m just finishing four weeks of intense Spirit-led training on the subject of the spirit of Jezebel.

A year ago, if asked about this subject I would have regurgitated what little I (and most of the Body of Christ) had heard over the last twenty years of being a christian, which is that Jezebel was a sultry seductress and the wife of King Ahab in the Bible. While these are both true, there is so much more to this spirit. (I won’t tell the full Bible story of Ahab and Jezebel in this article, but if you need to re-familiarize yourself with the Prophet Jeremiah’s account of their story in 1 Kings, you can read it here.)

So, what has the last thirty days of in-depth training on the subject of Jezebel uncovered? Lots. But before I continue, let me give credit where credit is due. The majority (though not all) of what I’ve learned came from three primary sources: Dr. Donald Ibbitson, PhD and Dr. Phyllis Tarbox, PhD of Above & Beyond Deliverance Counseling, Pastor Mark Chase of Invicta Ministries, and Dr. Bob Larson, who has performed over 40,000 documented cases of exorcisms and literally wrote the book on Jezebel, Jezebel: Defeating Your #1 Spiritual Enemy, which I just got finished reading.

In Larson’s book, he doesn’t assign a gender to Jezebel or any other spirit. But for the purposes of this article, I’ll use feminine pronouns when describing Jezebel, such as, “She” and “Her.” Before you read further, know that this spirit isn’t a mist, vapor, emotion or idea. It’s a spirit: a demonic spirit from hell sent to destroy its victim. So because this spirit isn’t technically female, it can entice and inhabit both male and female humans; though it is most often found in females and operates in conjunction with its counterpart, the spirit of Ahab, which is mostly found in males (these attributes are listed later on in this article). Additionally, Jezebel usually gains entry into someone’s life by one of three entry points: sin, molestation (even if non-consensual), or by sexual transference (sex with someone who is under the influence of Jezebel).

With this said, here is what all of my sources agree upon regarding the attributes of the spirit of Jezebel:

  • She works with others who have been infested with the Jezebel spirit.

  • She seeks to divide people from relationships with their loved ones.

  • She always strikes against the headship of churches, homes and families.

  • Jezebel’s mission is to silence men of God.

  • She seeks to emasculate men.

  • She sides with one party involved in a conflict; while refusing to hear the side of the other party.

  • She is self-righteous, but refuses to submit to reading the Word daily (and complying with it).

  • She hates humility, intercessory prayer, and repentance (because it destroys her strongholds of stubbornness and pride).

  • Uses intimidation in order to cloud the minds of those it desires to oppress. If one doesn’t go along with her actions, she will try to regain control by taking things important to the victim (relationships, friends, money, family, etc.). She puts the victim in a state of fear of losing things/people precious to them (blackmail). It’s the illegitimate use of power. Manipulating, intimidating and dominating another human are blatant uses of control and illegitimate authority.

  • While entrenched in a disagreement or argument, she will try to appeal to the logic and rationale (manipulation) of the one who disagrees with her (at this point, her adversary), in order to serve her selfish purposes.

  • Because she operates in the illegitimate use of authority, she will go around those who have legitimate authority; creating alliances with as many as she can in her family (church, work, or home), in order to outnumber that legitimate authority (a lynch mob or gang scheme).

  • She is a backstabber. She will give you a smile, a hug, and a kiss, acting as if nothing is wrong, if this helps her “win” her battle with you.

  • She views children as tools and weapons to manipulate your heart to advance her goals.

  • She appears to be religious (attends church, has only some biblical knowledge, allows church people in her circle who have only shallow biblical knowledge), but she herself only has a “form of godliness” (2 Tim. 3:5). If you know she isn’t a daily student of the Word, this is a dead giveaway that she’s more influenced by religious spirits than by Jesus.

  • She is like a shark; circling the lives of others, looking for teachable, seducible, controllable disciples of her own. She likes to birth spiritual children of her own, as she looks for disciples to eat from her own table (of wisdom, benevolence, affection, etc.). Those whom she allows in her inner circle are typically shallow in their knowledge of the Word, and weak arguers who prefer to avoid conflict. Those who oppose her as viewed as adversaries. She is a master at coercing these weaklings into her web who will also oppose her enemies. This pack mentality (many against one, i.e. 450 prophets of Baal vs Elijah) gives her justification for her behaviors.

  • She knows how to use deep emotional hurts and wounds to manipulate and control others.

  • She loves to pull people under herself and away from those who can truly speak Godly wisdom into their lives. She probes your soul, looking for your weaknesses.

  • She knows how to stir her victim up, because she flows best in a whirlwind of confusion and turmoil.

  • Her goal is to provide evidence that everyone other her is wrong; thus, becoming by default the only one who is “right.” She cuts anyone out of her life who doesn’t subscribe to her demonic schemes.

  • She uses any tool available to manipulate her victim into doing her will and getting her way.

  • She often uses fear to manipulate her victim into submission.

  • She is very possessive and domineering. She wants to control you. She loves power (“Give me! Give me! Give me!”). (Money isn’t necessarily the issue with this spirit. It’s power and authority she’s after.) She wants to be in control of your life, because she draws her strength from controlling you. That’s why you feel emotionally and spiritually drained after contending with her.

  • She uses self-pity and her own weaknesses and limitations to manipulate another into submitting to her out of compassion or pity.

  • She will even use prayer to manipulate the one she is attempting to control (aka Witchcraft Prayers), especially prayers prayed audibly over that person to create the illusion that doing her will is actually doing God’s will.

  • She will often operate in the false discernment of the enemy by speaking “A Word of Knowledge” gained from familiar spirits.

  • She is extremely bossy by nature; though she prefers to do so with a quiet and calm demeanor.

  • She is easily offended.

  • She is continually gathering and acquiring information to later be used against you, in case she ever begins to lose her grip of power.

  • Jezebels demand worship from others (the Queen Bee syndrome). She must have dominance and full control in her home. Other family members must exist to please her. For example, people who carry the Jezebel spirit are basically looking for others to praise them; to always be in support of what they’re doing. To always be at their beck and call. To always be the “Yes Man” when they need something.

  • She always looks for praise and attention that keeps her lifted at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

  • She talks a lot, because she feels that she knows more than anyone; therefore, she dominates all conversations. She typically does most of the talking. Therefore, she seeks relationships with those who don’t typically talk a lot. All conversations with her are one-sided; you’re doing the listening. And if there’s ever a break in the conversation, she switches off and does not hear you.

  • She uses the spirits of murmuring, complaining and criticism (all actual demons), which are servant spirits in her stronghold. Often those whom she’s at enmity with are deliberately cursed in a conscious effort to punish and bring them back in line and under her control. She firmly believes she has “right” on her side and displays vicious and callous disregard for the well-being and independence of others, having convinced herself that it is ultimately for their own good, as well as that she knows best and really has their best interest at heart in doing so. (Those who have been on the receiving side of her curse feel the anger and the viciousness of her curses acutely and mainly succumb to them. However, for those under the protection of the cross, these curses are usually transformed into blessings instead, leaving her zapped of her energy, frustrated, confused and defeated, wondering what went wrong.)

  • People with this controlling Jezebel spirit never admit they are wrong. It is always the fault of someone else. If you insist on an apology and confront the controlling Jezebel, you will almost always get pushback…major pushback. “I’m sorry” is simply not in her vocabulary.

  • Her expectations of others are always unrealistic, because others cannot—or will not—meet her demand for complete submission.

  • She lives vicariously thru her victim(s), drawing their strength (power) from them.

  • Bitterness and resentment against past hurts and offenses are nurtured in the victim by the Jezebel spirit, because she knows a root of bitterness will grow like a cancer and manifest itself in all sorts of physical ailments, which she can use as tools of manipulation. Of course, this cancer of bitterness is also slowly destroying the victim.

  • She uses criticism of perceived faults in others to build up her own self-esteem, and to justify her disobedience of—or lack of respect for—others; especially those who have legitimate (Godly) authority that she can never legitimately obtain.

  • Because she tends to be a perfectionist, any faults she finds in others is grounds for disobeying her authority. She uses criticism as a tool to manipulate. And along with murmuring and complaining causes divisiveness to weaken her opposition and thereby to gain control over and to destroy them.

  • When the Jezebel spirit is confronted with truth, it will perceive the confronter as the enemy. Then, it counter-attacks with assaults against this “enemy.”

As mentioned earlier, Jezebel works best with an “Ahab spirit” who helps her carry out her plans; though, if in a marriage in God’s Kingdom, he should actually be her authority (“For the husband is the head of the wife.” -Ephesians 5:23). Here are some of the attributes of the Ahab spirit:

  • An individual with an Ahab spirit will often make truces instead of relationships.

  • He avoids confrontation.

  • He usually denies fault.

  • He is weak and vacillating in the face of his powerful wife, Jezebel.

  • He relinquishes his God-given authority of the head position of the home because the Ahab husband doesn't want it; it takes too much energy. (Most people do not realize that if a home is out of order, God will allow it to come under a curse. Too many men fail to provide spiritual leadership in their homes and then, too often, the spirit of Jezebel surfaces in the wife causing the wife to be forced into headship of the home which is totally demonic.)

  • It will cause the man to let his wife handle problems that he should be taking care of. This is an issue of transferring of responsibilities and in doing this the man becomes weaker and weaker.

  • The Ahab spirit is a rejected, insecure individual, subject to withdrawal and low self-esteem. As long as he can have his pleasures and pursuits of the world, his wife can do anything she wants.

  • A man with an Ahab spirit may believe in God, but it's just not worth the effort or time it takes to pursue a relationship with the Lord. He will abdicate his Head position as priest of the family.

  • With the Ahab spirit present, reading the Bible is out of the question.

  • He runs from leadership positions within the church. With minimal effort, he will hardly be enthusiastic about church projects. Simple tasks such as emptying the church garbage cans is about the most he could muster up, in serving the church.

  • He may attend church, but his prayer life is (if any) is robotic and powerless. He has a shallow, hardly visible relationship with God.

  • He maintains judgmentalism toward the sin of others; while being in denial of his own sin (a trait Jezebel infected him with).

  • It dislikes using his God-given authority in decision-making.

  • Enjoys childish things, such as sulking and refusing to talk to those whom he may be at enmity with.

  • He attempts to please his Jezebel wife be letting her have her way.

  • Is a workaholic.

  • Definitely does not want to lead in his own home, but is quick to criticize those who do.

  • Passive and avoids confrontation.

  • They never want to face issues, always ready to walk away and say, “Forget it!” They always are pushing their feelings down, just wanting to go on with life and never wanting to deal with the issues at hand, avoiding confrontation.

Have you unknowingly submitted to the Jezebel spirit? The Ahab spirit? If so, and if this article has exposed some truths about your life, it’s clear how you must respond: confess your sin and repent. I would normally have a prayer here that you could recite, but I just feel like the Lord wants you to confess your sins (to Him and to those who have seen your Jezebel/Ahab side). So wherever you’re at, put your device down and talk to God from your heart about your transgressions…He’s waiting.
